Relaxing Exercises – Feb 14th, 28th and March 14th (Advanced Only)
In this set of Workshops we plan to go through the Up and Down Movement and the Five Relaxing Exercises.
You may think you already know these exercises, but with these Workshops we want to work on a much deeper level than we have previously. Recently we have only looked at playing the taiji in the Human level. In these workshops we will explore the Earth level, which means we will be concentrating on moving the chi through body by the mind intention or Yi.
As Master Huang wrote in his 20 Important Points;
“Have faith, modesty and perseverance and success will prevail.”
You will need the above principles in this workshop. We will be moving very slowly, doing very basic movements for long periods of time, patience is essential. To develop in Taiji, you must observe the most obvious, simple things, within that is where Mastery lies.
A good knowledge of the details of the Five Relaxing Exercises must be in place before attending this course, and the student must have completed the 37 Posture Form..
Course is limited to 10 people, First people applying will be accepted.
- February 14th – Up and Down Movement and First Relaxing Exercise.
- February 28th – Second and Third Relaxing Exercise.
- March 14th – Fourth and Fifth Relaxing Exercise.
The aim of this Workshop is to introduce all of the Five Relaxing Exercises.
When first learning these Exercises the main focus is to open and loosen all the joints, ligaments and muscles tissue. We want to generate a feeling of heaviness in the arms that force the torso and base of the body to work to move the arms. Ideally approaching a smooth flow within the movement.
We will also work with postures in a Single leg to help us develop the necessary connection to the ground, As well as working with a partner to try to help induce the feeling of letting go.
Anyone is welcome to come and join in. For existing students you will have more space and time to concentrate more on each exercise.
Course is limited to 12 people, First people applying will be accepted.

Partner work is essential if we want to develop the “Heaven level” of Taiji, this is where we can learn “Dongjin”, the understanding of the forces.
The aim of this Workshop is to play with some ideas in Free Pushing and Free Play (moving step)
As we do not have a class where we just focus on Partner work, we would like to introduce a regular monthly Friday Workshop, which can give students the chance to play and try out ideas with other students.
Paul will introduce one or two ideas, and then we can play together in trying to develop and integrate these ideas into the body.
